The Bunk Room: Made for Summer

There’s something about a bunk room in summer.

Sandy feet after the beach. Cousins who haven’t seen each other for months. Mattresses full of kids who are definitely not going to sleep yet. Whispers, giggles and someone eventually calling out, “Can you guys be quiet in there?”

For us, that’s part of the magic of a bach or family holiday home.

One room. A lot of memories.

A well-planned bunk room can turn one bedroom into a space for siblings, cousins, friends and all those extra people who seem to appear over Christmas.

Two bunks side by side can work beautifully in a larger room, while L-shaped bunks make clever use of corners. Family bunks give you a larger bed below, triple configurations add another sleeping space, and trundlers can stay tucked away until they're needed.

And then there’s storage.

Because six children somehow arrive with the belongings of twelve.

Drawers under the beds or a storage staircase can make a surprisingly big difference when everyone is sharing one room.

The best bunk rooms aren't necessarily the biggest. They're the ones that have been thought through.

And when summer finally arrives?

Fill the beds, shut the door, and hope they eventually fall asleep.

Because some of the best holiday memories happen long after bedtime.
